If you broke your leg and a doctor casted it telling you, you would have to wear the cast the rest of your life, what would you do? Find a new doctor!
If you are wearing glasses to correct your vision, you are following much the same logic. You will be wearing glasses and most likely getting stronger prescriptions for the rest of your life.
You can take matters into your own hands, literally. PALMING for five minutes once or twice a day can go a long way to relaxing and soothing the eyes. I like to palm before I get out of bed in the morning, setting eye health as an intention for the day.
To palm, place your relaxed cupped palms lightly over your eyes, fingers overlapping on the forehead, heels of the hands resting on the cheekbones. Breathe gently and easily. Feel how total darkness soothes the eyes and allows the mind and body to relax. If you find yourself thinking, gently bring your attention to the eyes or the breath.
You can palm anytime. If lying down, prop each elbow on a pillow to release tension in the arms. When sitting prop the elbows on a table/desk, adjusting the height so the weight of the head can release into the hands.
When palming feels complete, gently release the hands and take a breath. Open the eyes intentionally and slowly and be curious as you look around.
